About This Test

What It Measures

This test measures connectedness to nature - your emotional and cognitive bond with the natural world and your sense of belonging within ecological systems. It evaluates whether you experience yourself as separate from or part of nature, whether your wellbeing feels tied to environmental health, and whether you feel kinship with other living beings. This construct, developed from environmental psychology research, predicts pro-environmental behavior better than environmental knowledge alone. It reflects deep biophilia - the innate human affinity for living systems described by E.O. Wilson.

How It Works

You'll respond to 15 statements about your relationship with nature - from feeling unity with the environment to respecting non-human intelligence to experiencing emotional grounding outdoors. Questions tap both cognitive beliefs (seeing yourself as part of nature) and affective experiences (feeling integrated into the web of life). Your score places you on a spectrum from disconnected (nature as scenery) to deeply integrated (nature as home). Based on the Connectedness to Nature Scale developed by environmental psychologists studying ecological identity.

When to Use This Test

Take this test if you feel alienated in modern urban life, if you're drawn to nature but don't understand why, if you're exploring environmental careers, if outdoor time significantly affects your mood, if you're questioning anthropocentric worldviews, or if you want to understand your eco-anxiety. High scores correlate with pro-environmental behavior, conservation support, and lower materialism. Understanding your nature connection can validate biophilic needs and guide lifestyle choices toward greater environmental integration and meaning.
